NYTimes: Planting the Strip Between Sidewalk and Street

I've always thought that the little strips of grass by the curb are rather lonely and neglected. The trees planted there sometimes create cracks in the sidewalk, and the grass is always rather thin and the soil rather loose. I'm glad people are reclaiming it, like so:

Maybe that can be another new project this summer. We have a good few yards of grass strip in front of our house.
